This weekend the annual Carnival begins! The Carnival is a huge celebration, with parades, costumes, music, dancing and joy. One of the biggest parties of the year! The celebration lasts almost a week and offers a variety of events and parades. It all begins on the 12th of February with the arrival of the Carnival king and ends on February 17th. In Barcelona there will be a series of celebrations and parades, which tend to be inspired by the more traditional and historical Carnival celebrations as they have been done for centuries.
Another popular Carnival celebration take place in Lloret de Mar, about an hour north of Barcelona. Here you can experience large parades and colorful processions, both for children and adults. Many out of town visitors contribute to the great atmosphere in the city. This is one of the largest Carnival celebrations in the Barcelona area.
For the most famous and extravagant Carnival you should visit Sitges, half an hour west of Barcelona. The two largest parades are on Sunday the 15th and Tuesday 17th of February. They are expecting about 50 floats and 2-3000 ecstatic participants. If you are a party lover, this is the place to be. Exotic costumes, music, dancing and a fantastic atmosphere!
